Rutgers University - New Brunswick

Rutgers University is a public research university in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The University is consistently ranked among the top universities in the US. Rutgers is officially classified as an R1 institution, meaning the university is highly engaged in innovative research and receives significant funding from a variety of sources to support research endeavors. 

Undergrads are able to take advantage of the university’s various opportunities  to participate in research through the Aresty Research Center, which focuses on providing funding for undergrad research as well as through the honors college research program, summer research programs, and independent faculty-mentored research.

The student experience at Rutgers is a mix between rigorous and relaxed. Rutgers is known for its renowned faculty, challenging academics, and dedicated students. The sprawling campus, however, provides a relaxing atmosphere for students to unwind from their studies through extracurriculars, clubs, intramural sports, or explore the laid-back college town of New Brunswick or nearby Philadelphia or New York.

Sports are important to the Rutgers experience and add to the energy and excitement on campus. Many students look to sporting events as a way to take a break from their studies, for socializing, and building connections. Additionally, Rutgers has a large and supportive alumni network who actively engage in the athletic programs through fundraisers, mentorships, and supporting the development of the sports programs. 

Rutgers University competes at the NCAA Division I level as a member of the Big Ten Conference. The university’s biggest rivals are Ohio State, Penn State, and Michigan.

Rutgers University has an extensive history. Founded in 1766, it is the eighth-oldest higher education institution in the US. It was one of the nine original colonial colleges established before the American Revolution. The other eight include Harvard, William & Mary, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, Penn, Brown, and Dartmouth.
