Scholarships to Apply to in March, April, and May

From applying and receiving decisions to applying for scholarships, spring is a great time to prepare for college. This spring, there are many opportunities to apply for scholarships that fit your needs and circumstances. Here is a list of scholarships currently open for application with deadlines in March, April, and May.

March Scholarships


Horatio Alger National Scholarship Program

Who is Eligible: Students who have overcome great obstacles and who can demonstrate financial need

Deadline: March 15, 2022

Award: $25,000

Awards Available: 106

The Horatio Alger National Scholarship is one of the largest college financial aid programs in the country. Winners will receive an award of $25,000 as well as an all-expenses paid trip to Washington D.C. to attend the National Scholars Conference where they will receive their award.

Foster Care to Success Scholarship

Who is Eligible: Students who have been in foster care for 12 consecutive months, adopted or placed into legal guardianship after their 16th birthday, or have been orphaned for at least one year at the time of their 18th birthday

Deadline: March 31, 2022

Award: $2,500-$5,000, determined by need and merit

Awards Available: Unknown

The Foster Care to Success Scholarship is a scholarship for foster care or orphaned students who live in the United States. Citizenship is not required. The scholarship is renewable for up to five years for eligible students. Awards will be announced in June.

Shell Scholarships for High School Seniors

Who is Eligible: graduating high school seniors who plan on studying engineering or science in college

Deadline: March 15, 2022

Award: $2,500

Awards Available: 20 per program

The Shell Company Technical Scholarship and the Shell Incentive Fund Scholarship are programs intended to provide assistance to students interested in the energy industry who plan on entering into an engineering or science study path in college. Students may apply to only one of the two scholarship programs.

Claes Nobel Future Female Leader Scholarship

Who is Eligible: High school seniors who identify as female with a GPA of 3.5 or higher

Award: $1,000

Awards Available: 10

The Claes Nobel Future Female Leader Scholarship was established to provide future leaders with opportunities to thrive in college and beyond. Applicants are required to answer a prompt about their own leadership experience in school and in their community.

Carlynn’s Comic Scholarship

Who is Eligible: College students with an interest in comics and animation

Deadline: March 20, 2022

Award: $1,300

Awards Available: 1

Students interested in comics and animation are encouraged to apply to this scholarship designed to help students who have been positively influenced by comics and animated storytelling. Applicants must either write an essay or submit a video essay.

Project Yellow Light Scholarship

Project Yellow Light is a scholarship program created in honor of Hunter Garner, a 16 year old who died in a car crash in 2007. The scholarship was created in his honor as a way to spread awareness about driving safety through making audio and visual PSAs. Each applicant should create a video, radio, or social video PSA. Winning submissions will also be used as an Ad Council PSA to be distributed nationwide.

Lockheed Martin STEM Scholarship

Who is Eligible: High school seniors or college students pursuing a STEM major and can demonstrate financial need

Award: $10,000

The Lockheed Martin STEM Scholarship is Lockheed Martin's yearly commitment to invest in the next generation of STEM talent by providing access to STEM education. The Lockheed Martin STEM scholarship can be renewed up to three times for a total of $40,000 per student. Applicants are asked to submit a HS or college transcript and a most-recently filled IRS form 1040 (or an explanation of financial circumstances). Winners will be chosen based on academic record, leadership experience, community activities, work experience, and future aspirations. Additionally, first-generation college students and applicants who self-identify as members of groups that are traditionally underrepresented in STEM careers will be given additional consideration. Applicants will be notified in mid-May.

American Indian Education Fund Undergraduate Scholarship

The AIEF Undergraduate Scholarship is awarded to eligible students who are attending college full-time and are enrolled or have one parent enrolled in a state or federally-recognized tribe.

CeraVe Future Nurses $25,000 Scholarship

The CeraVe Future Nurses $25,000 Scholarship is sponsored by CeraVe and run by the American Nurses Foundation and the Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation™ initiative. Applicants must submit an essay describing why they are passionate about nursing and what school they plan to attend.

The Fountainhead Scholarship

Who is Eligible: 11th and 12th grade students worldwide

Students who have read The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand can choose from three essay topics that analyze a quote or theme from the novel. Applicants will be judged on their ability to justify their argument in a clear, articulate, and organized manner. A free digital copy of the novel is available for all applicants.

Think For Yourself Scholarship

The Think For Yourself Scholarship is a high school essay contest with four winners. Each applicant is required to answer one of five essay prompts about free speech, curiosity, and open-mindedness. One winner will be awarded $5,000 and three winners will be awarded $1,000 each.

RISE Financial Progress Scholarship

Applicants for the Review It Scholarship must submit a review of their favorite film and are encouraged to watch that film at least twice and research the history of the film. The scholarship winner will be announced approximately six weeks after the submission deadline.
