About Notre Dame

The University of Notre Dame, commonly known as simply Notre Dame, is a highly ranked private Catholic university in Indiana. Notre Dame is known for its academic excellence, emphasis on research, and for having one of the most storied and successful college football teams in history. As a R1 research university, Notre Dame has large and diverse research programs and opportunities for students and faculty of all levels. Undergrad research is highly recommended for students and the Flatley Center helps undergrads get started through workshops, advising, and finding funding.

Some of the most popular majors at Notre Dame include business administration, finance, psychology, political science, mechanical engineering, and computer science. Students can also find many opportunities to learn outside of the classroom through study abroad, internships, service-learning, co-op programs, and more. Students can also explore, prototype and test innovative and entrepreneurial  projects through the university’s IDEA center

Notre Dame has a strong student community and sense of tradition. Many students form lifelong friendships during their time at the university, which is why many students choose to live on campus even after freshman year. In addition to the highly-ranked academics, students are attracted to Notre Dame’s strong student community, rich traditions, beautiful campus, and Catholic foundation.

Notre Dame is a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) for all sports except football. The university retains football independence, meaning it schedules its own football games. This allows for Notre Dame to compete against a wide variety of teams from other conferences and other independent teams. Football is the university’s most popular sport but other popular sports include basketball, ice hockey, soccer, and lacrosse.

Did You Know?

Notre Dame has two natural lakes located on campus–St. Joseph Lake and the St. Mary’s Lake. Each lake has a walking trail and hosts water activities, and both are popular spots on campus. St. Joseph’s lake also offers a pier and small beach used for swimming

What the CC Community is saying about Notre Dame

"I wouldn’t worry too much about making friends- I came here knowing NOBODY. The university sets you up pretty well to meet people during welcome weekend, and you inevitably make friends through your classes, clubs and of course your hall! Most of my closest friends are from the improv team or are in one of my classes. College is scary like that, but I promise you’ll find some lifelong and awesome friends here!"
